          Cost of Driver Education &
Answers to Commonly Asked                     Questions About Fees

The cost of driver education can appear to be very expensive, so it is important to carefully review all options with your teen before you choose a program.  There is no right or wrong choice-only the option that best fits your teen, your family and your budget.  While earning a license in four months may sound appealing, the time and energy required may not work for every family.  It is also important that your teen is ready to fully commit to this process in order for them to get the most out of this training.

We have received many questions regarding classroom fees and packages offered.  The list below provides answers to the most commonly asked questions.  Please feel free to email back if you have additional questions.

  • The 30 hr. classroom training fee is the same for both online and in-person platforms.

  • There is no discount for choosing one platform versus the other. Discounts are given for returning families and those in the military.  These discounts are given on classroom training only, not road time.

  • There is no separate fee for the Parent and Student class.  That class is included in both the 30 hr. classroom option and  8 hr. classroom option.  The CT DMV approves all fees charged by driving schools. There is no state approved fee for this class, therefore no driving school can charge a separate fee for this.

  • For the 30 hr. classroom option, you only pay that fee listed below.   You DO NOT pay the 30 hr. classroom fee AND the     8 hr. classroom fee for that program.  The classroom fee listed is the only classroom fee charged.  To clarify, you DO NOT pay $225.00 AND $150.00 for the 30 hr. class program.  You pay $225.00 total for the 30 hr. class program OR $150.00 for the 8 hr. class program. Instructor road training fees are a separate cost and not included in classroom training fees.

  • If you choose the 30 hr. class option ONLY, your teen must wait six months to take the road test.  For your teen to road test in 120 days/4 months post permit, your teen MUST complete the 30 hr class, parent and student class AND 8 hrs. of instructor road time.

  • At registration, you pay the classroom fee.  You do not need to pay for everything upfront. Certificates are not filed until ALL fees are paid in full.  Road testing cannot be scheduled until the DMV receives a certificate of course completion from a driving school.

  • The $625.00 fee for the 30 hr. class and 8 hrs. of instructor road time includes everything:

    • 30 hr. class ($225.00), 2 hr. parent and student class (no charge)

    • 8 hrs. on the road 8 x $50.00 per hour= $400.00.

    • $225.00 + $400.00= $625.00

  • The only package we offer is the 30 hr. class and 8 hrs. instructor road training.  There are no additional packages for the 8 hr. classroom option and road time.

  • If you choose the 8 hr. classroom option and would like instructor road time, you will be charged the prices listed for each item, meaning a fee for the class and the hourly fees for instructor road training. With the 8 hr. classroom option, instructor road training is optional and the number of hours you would like is up to you and your budget.

  • Lastly, we do not accept payments through this website.  In the past, we have received inquiries from Colchester Vermont and Colchester England.  If you are from one of those locations, we thank you for your interest; however, we are located in the United States (Connecticut) and that is too far for travel.

  • Please email us at bgannon@snet.net with your choice of program and classroom platform (if choosing 30 hr classroom) and we will be happy to complete the registration process from there.

  • Before choosing any option, we recommend contacting your insurance carrier to see whether any discounts are offered for your teen's driver education training.  Not all companies offer a discount and some may require additional training or specific academic criteria for discounts.  Once all training has been completed, the certificate we file is accepted by insurance carriers as documentation of the training completed.  We also forward a pdf of the final certificate to the email address on file with the DMV, which is provided to them when registering for the knowledge/permit test.
